NFL announces punishment for 20 players before Week 2

The NFL has unveiled its Week 1 accountability list, imposing fines on 20 players across the league before Week 2 begins. Among the players fined are notable names like Washington Commanders wide receiver Stefon Diggs and Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Stefon Diggs received a $14,926 fine for illegal celebrations and vulgar acts, which included jumping onto the goal post after scoring a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams was fined $11,941 for taunting, while Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon and San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk each received a $11,941 fine for the same violation. Jahmyr Gibbs led the list in unnecessary roughness fines with a $23,027 penalty for helmet use. Other notable fines included $17,911 for a hip-drop tackle on Miami Dolphins running back Chris Johnson, $9,425 for a hip-drop tackle on Buffalo Bills safety Sam Franklin, and $17,911 for a late hit on a quarterback by Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown.

The league recorded 20 fines from 2,568 plays in Week 1, with each violation categorized based on the type of contact involved.
