Najib’s conditional pardon has not strained unity government, says DPM Zahid

Jakarta, Sept 19 — Deputy Prime Minister and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that relations among the parties constituting the unity government have remained strong following the Pardons Board's decision involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. Zahid, speaking at a media conference, affirmed that while acting professionally in government affairs, there have been no issues, and the Cabinet's collective decision-making process ensures smooth operations.

The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department informed that the pardon granted to Najib permitted him to conclude his sentence through house arrest until August 23, 2028, under the condition of paying a RM50 million fine. This decision was made at the 64th Meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, under the King's consent.

Zahid emphasized that the pardon decision adheres to the Federal Constitution, and any disputes would be contrary to constitutional provisions. He reaffirmed Umno and BN's commitment to adhering to the law, a stance previously communicated.
