Muhyiddin denies acquittal linked to talks with PH

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the president of Bersatu, has denied that his acquittal on four charges involving RM200 million is linked to any attempts to form a political alliance with Pakatan Harapan (PH). He stated that the High Court's decision was unrelated to any such cooperation efforts. The trial revolved around specific charges against him, which, according to Muhyiddin, were ultimately dismissed.

He told reporters at Bersatu's 10th anniversary event that the prosecution withdrew the charges against him, leading to his acquittal on four of the seven charges. Muhyiddin expressed doubt about how the court's decision could be connected to potential cooperation with PH. On September 15, the High Court acquitted and discharged Muhyiddin of one charge of obtaining RM200 million in gratification through his position, as well as three money-laundering charges involving the same amount.

The prosecution had sought a discharge but received a full acquittal instead. High Court judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin explained that the prosecution did not provide reasons for dropping the four charges and exercised their discretion in favor of Muhyiddin. Despite this, Muhyiddin still faces three charges of abuse of position involving RM25.3 million in alleged bribes.
