Moses Kuria criticises choice of Kiringiti Stadium for Kindiki elders’ meeting

In a recent development, the elders of Mt Kenya have designated Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as the region's spokesperson. This decision was made on Saturday, September 19, 2026, during a meeting held at Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu County. The elders from Mt Kenya East and West came together to resolve their differences and work as a unified region.

According to Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, the elders agreed to view the entire Mt Kenya region as one undivided entity. Ruku further reported that the elders directed Kithure Kindiki to assume the role of their spokesperson, urging all leaders to collaborate for the prosperity of the country. This move comes as political figures intensify their efforts to mobilize ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kindiki's new role marks a significant shift, as he previously campaigned for the division of the region into Mt Kenya East and West. The elders, in their symbolic gesture, handed Ruku a flywhisk, signaling a symbolic end to the controversial "split the mountain" campaign. This development has sparked debate, with former DP Rigathi Gachagua accusing President William Ruto of orchestrating a plan to divide the region into Mt Kenya East and West.

Gachagua believes that the region's communities share historical, cultural, and social ties, and that the efforts to divide the region have been rejected by the residents.
