More than 35 woman come forward in case against fake 49ers player accused of fraud

The FBI announced that at least 35 more women have come forward with allegations of fraud against Daejon Love, the man accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player and wealthy investor. Love and his alleged accomplice, Taylor Chan, allegedly defrauded women they met on dating apps out of a total of $1.3 million. Love, 35, and Chan, 18, were arrested in August and charged with wire fraud.

According to federal authorities, Love used AI-assisted fake identities, fabricated investment accounts, and staged video calls to gain the confidence of women across California, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. Love allegedly convinced some women that he was a former NFL player, while others believed he was on reserve or injured.

The plot allegedly began in February 2022 and continued until the pair's arrest in August. Prosecutors have not revealed how Love and Chan met. Love is described as nomadic with little known about his family ties and no legitimate source of employment. Texts and videos showing Love living a seemingly lavish lifestyle and using 49ers paraphernalia have gone viral on social media.

Portland FBI special agent Douglas Olson criticized any jokes made at the expense of the victimized women, emphasizing the manipulative nature of Love's scheme. He urged any potential victims to contact law enforcement.
