Magic Acquire Ricky Council IV in Minor Deal, What Does It Mean as the Magic Prepare For Training Camp

The Orlando Magic made a minor league deal, acquiring Philadelphia 76ers guard Ricky Council IV from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Council IV, who has two years of NBA experience, spent last season in the G-League and appeared in eight games for the Vipers before being waived. Council IV averaged 12.4 points, 2.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in the eight games he played, shooting 40.5% from the field, 36.5% from three, and 66.7% from the free-throw line.

The 25-year-old scored in double figures four times during that span. Council IV's addition to the Magic's roster is expected to provide depth for the team's G-League affiliate, Osceola Magic. The Magic also acquired Phillip Wheeler and a 2027 First-Round pick in the trade. Wheeler, a 6-8 forward, has spent almost his entire career in the G-League and averaged 14.3 points and 3.4 rebounds last season while shooting 52.1% from the field and 77.8% from the free-throw line.

The Magic's G-League team, Osceola, had one of their best seasons in franchise history, winning the Eastern Conference regular season for the third consecutive year and reaching the conference finals.
