Loke offers to resign from cabinet over Najib's house arrest

The Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general, Loke Siew Fook, has tendered his resignation as transport minister following the conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Najib Razak. This move was made at a central executive committee meeting, with Loke stating that he would be the sole DAP leader offering to resign in order to maintain political stability.

The DAP has denied allegations that they are seeking to leave the Cabinet as a whole, as some parties desire, in order to cause political instability and potentially weaken Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's majority support. Loke emphasized that DAP will not allow their adversaries to achieve their political goals by provoking the party to make such a decision.

He added that his resignation, if accepted, would not disrupt the functioning of the transport ministry, although he noted that he would require some time to address outstanding matters before officially stepping down from the position. The conditional pardon for Najib allows him to serve the remainder of his six-year prison term at his residence, provided he pays a RM50 million fine related to his SRC International case.
