Kohat Police Lines attack: 8 terrorists killed as overnight clearance operation concludes

Peshawar: On Saturday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police announced that an overnight operation to clear buildings near a mosque had resulted in the deaths of eight terrorists. The operation, which lasted around 21 hours, involved Elite Force commandos, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) teams, and security forces. KP Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed, along with the Kohat regional police officer and Kohat district police officer, were present at the scene.

KP IG Hameed lauded the officers who participated in the operation and promised rewards for their bravery. He expressed satisfaction that the terrorists' plans had been thwarted and vowed to eliminate them completely. According to a CTD statement, the additional IG was injured during the operation when terrorists attacked the Special Branch building with a grenade.

Despite the injury, he remained on the frontline to supervise the operation. The attack followed a suicide bombing near the mosque that killed at least 21 people, including 15 police officials, and wounded over 100. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. The funeral prayers for the 15 deceased police officers were held in Kohat, and their bodies were sent to their native districts in Rescue 1122 ambulances.
