Inter Milan and Italy icon Mazzola dies aged 83

Sandro Mazzola, a revered former Inter Milan and Italy forward, has passed away at the age of 83, according to the club's announcement on Saturday. The Nerazzurri lauded Mazzola as one of the greatest footballers in history, having spent his entire career with Inter from 1958 to 1977. During his tenure, Mazzola secured four Serie A titles and two consecutive European Cups in 1964 and 1965.

The iconic player netted 158 goals in 565 appearances for Inter Milan, including a memorable two-goal performance in the 1964 European Cup final against Real Madrid, securing a 3-1 victory for Inter. Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskas, who played against Sandro's father Valentino Mazzola, praised his son's talent, stating, "You are worthy of him."

Sandro Mazzola also claimed 22 goals in 70 appearances for Italy, participating in the 1968 European Championship and the 1970 World Cup final in Mexico. After retiring in 1977, Mazzola held executive positions at Inter and later served as the sporting director of Torino. Inter president Giuseppe Marotta paid tribute to Mazzola, acknowledging his enduring legacy at the club.
