“I don’t need any calls” – Füllkrug unfazed by Germany snub

Niclas Füllkrug, who has been impressing since returning to Werder Bremen, was notably absent from Germany's recent 44-player squad called up by head coach Jürgen Klopp for upcoming UEFA Nations League matches. After Werder's 3-2 victory over Augsburg, during which Füllkrug scored for the third consecutive game, he expressed his lack of concern about his omission.

"I’m not expecting a call at all. I don’t need any calls," Füllkrug told Sky Germany, emphasizing his focus on his club commitments. Werder Bremen's head coach, Daniel Thioune, believes that Füllkrug’s continued high-level performance could position him as a future option for the national team under Klopp. "With the national team coach, it’s certainly the same as with me: You can impress him and put pressure on him with your performances," Thioune stated.

"And if Fülle continues to perform like this, then he’ll certainly remain in the national team’s wider circle of candidates." Thioune acknowledged the coach's tendency to favor less familiar players, suggesting that Füllkrug’s consistent goal-scoring could eventually earn him a spot if he maintains his current form. The striker has netted 14 goals in 24 appearances for Germany, having last played for the national team in June 2025, when Germany suffered a 2-0 defeat to France in the UEFA Nations League third-place playoff.
