How Nur Hazizah learnt that faith need not divide a family

Nur Hazizah Indrasafri's upbringing in Alor Setar, Kedah, was largely shaped by her grandmother, Ng King Fong, who raised her after her parents separated. Despite personal hardships, including her mother's frequent relocations and her father's death, Ng remained a constant presence in Nur Hazizah's life. With no significant financial means of her own, Ng provided unwavering support to nurture Nur Hazizah and her siblings.

Nur Hazizah, a Muslim, cherishes this support, recognizing the importance of her grandmother's sacrifices. Remarkably, even though Ng is a Buddhist, the two share a harmonious relationship, with neither compromising their respective beliefs. This unique familial bond has instilled in Nur Hazizah a profound understanding of respect and acceptance, teaching her that it is unnecessary for people to share the same faith to show care and understanding towards one another.

As she embarks on her journey towards pursuing a hospitality management degree at Universiti Utara Malaysia, she is motivated by her grandmother's unwavering support. Nur Hazizah acknowledges that her definition of family extends beyond mere blood relations or shared circumstances. Instead, she believes that true family is forged through the care and respect shown by those who stand by her in every step of her life.
