Haze: Cloud seeding operation in KL, Putrajaya, Selangor today and tomorrow, says Nadma

Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor are set to conduct a cloud seeding operation today and tomorrow to alleviate the impact of haze, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma). The operation, in collaboration with the Malaysian Meteorological Department, Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and Royal Malaysian Air Force, comes after PM2.5 readings in the affected areas surpassed 150 for over 24 hours, as reported by the Department of Environment.

An RMAF C-130 Hercules aircraft will be the primary instrument for the cloud seeding process. However, the success of the operation hinges on favorable weather conditions and the existence of appropriate clouds. Nadma director-general Datuk Meor Ismail Meor Akim emphasized that the operation is one of the government's measures to mitigate the effects of haze and enhance air quality in the impacted regions.

As of 1pm today, the Air Pollutant Index Management System recorded 17 air quality monitoring stations in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor reporting unhealthy API readings, with Shah Alam in Selangor recording the highest reading of 154. Seven of these stations were located in Sarawak, with Serian reporting the highest reading of 176.
