Govt Allows More Petrol Per Token

The federal government has lifted the five-liter cap on petrol purchases under its relief program, permitting token holders to acquire the weekly Rs. 500 subsidy even when they fill up with less than five liters of petrol. Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima announced the changes during a press conference. The government has implemented three significant adjustments to make the scheme more accessible during the current surge in global oil prices and regional tensions.

Under the revised program, all motorcycles and three-wheelers registered since January 1, 2006, will qualify for registration. The government has also scrapped the five-liter limit per token, and registration messages via SMS will now be free. Fatima revealed that while 91.6% of registrations are for two and three-wheelers, 8.4% of registrations are for vehicles up to 800cc.

So far, 1,493,848 fuel tokens have been distributed, and 655,067 individuals have already received fuel. The implementation committee convenes three times daily to oversee the scheme, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is closely monitoring the progress. The government has also eliminated all fees associated with the scheme. Fatima cautioned citizens against disclosing their CNIC numbers or registration details to anyone and advised reporting anyone requesting money for the service.

To register, citizens can send an SMS to 9771 with their 13-digit CNIC, the first word of the province where their vehicle is registered, and the vehicle registration details. Complaints about petrol pumps can be lodged through 9772, and cases where a petrol pump refuses to provide the relief can be reported to 9771. A separate relief of Rs. 100 per liter has been offered for vehicles up to 800cc.
