Ghanaian nurses set for US opportunities as GEA brokers Columbus partnership

The Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) has brokered a significant partnership with Columbus, Ohio, aiming to provide structured professional opportunities for qualified Ghanaian health professionals, particularly nurses, in the United States. This initiative, spearheaded by GEA CEO Margaret Ansei, involves collaboration between the City of Columbus, Ghana's Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment, and the Ministry of Health.

The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in September 2026, follows a series of discussions beginning in February 2026, when a Columbus delegation visited the GEA to explore potential cooperation. The MoU paves the way for the professional deployment of Ghanaian health professionals, adhering to applicable laws, licensing requirements, employment conditions, and agreed-upon terms by participating institutions.

The partnership also aims to establish clear procedures for recruitment, selection, employment arrangements, professional requirements, and institutional responsibilities, with a strong emphasis on respecting the dignity, professionalism, and welfare of the involved professionals. This initiative not only offers employment opportunities for Ghanaian health professionals in Columbus but also promotes institutional cooperation, professional exchange, and knowledge sharing in the healthcare sector.
