Ed Sheeran set to resume tour after Macklemore was controversially dropped for making pro-Palestine comments

Ed Sheeran is set to begin his tour once more on Saturday, possibly performing alone after his opening acts withdrew in support of Macklemore. The controversy arose when Macklemore made pro-Palestinian remarks during a performance on September 5th in New Jersey, leading to his removal from the lineup. It is uncertain how Sheeran will adapt his performance, particularly at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, where his support band Beoga and other touring acts have also dropped out.

Despite losing several artists, Sheeran has sold tickets for his Saturday show, with no replacement acts listed on his website. Pro-Palestinian organizations have announced plans to protest outside the venue later in the day. This event follows a week of turmoil, starting with Macklemore’s drop due to his comments and Sheeran’s assertion of having no control over the decision, which was influenced by Robert Kraft, owner of the stadium hosting the tour.

Macklemore has pledged $1 million to aid Palestinian relief efforts and called for Kraft to match the contribution, though Kraft’s representative stated both have agreed to donate $2 million. Sheeran’s Loop Tour, the highest-grossing worldwide, averaged over $7 million per city, making him the third-highest earning act since 2021.

Sheeran emphasized that the tour promoter was responsible for Macklemore’s removal and expressed his commitment to his fans and touring crew. Despite the influence of promoters and venues, a concert artist of Sheeran’s caliber typically has the final say on such matters.
