Dutch police disperse violent far-right protest in The Hague

On Saturday, Dutch police forcefully dispersed a violent far-right protest in The Hague's city center, where around 500 demonstrators chanted antisemitic slogans and hurled fireworks at authorities. The conflict erupted when the "We Are the People" rally, organized to criticize government policies, particularly those concerning immigration, attempted to march through the city.

However, local authorities halted the procession after violent clashes erupted in a nearby park. In response, police utilized baton charges and specialized canines to disband the crowd. Twenty-four individuals were apprehended, and water cannons were deployed to further quell the rioters. Prime Minister Rob Jetten condemned the demonstrators for deliberately provoking a confrontation with police and for using reprehensible far-right and antisemitic rhetoric.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister David van Weel demanded a stringent response to the despicable scenes witnessed at the protest, which included Nazi salutes, attacks on police, and the throwing of fireworks. This incident marks a year since similar riots ensued during a right-wing demonstration, during which a police vehicle was set ablaze, and the headquarters of the centrist D66 party, led by Prime Minister Jetten, were targeted.
