Defilement: Police arrest Kogi chief after PUNCH report

Lagos police have arrested Muhammad Salifu, the Head of the Igala Community in Lagos, following a report by Saturday PUNCH. The arrest came after Salifu allegedly defiled a 15-year-old girl twice at a hotel in Ojota, Lagos, in December 2023. The incident reportedly occurred when the teenager was raped, became pregnant, and later died from complications.

Salifu, dressed in a white native cloth, was seen fighting with police officers and angry women and youths at his house. The police were reportedly bitten and wounded during the struggle, necessitating backup from Ogudu Police Station. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, stated that the suspect remained in custody. The case is still under investigation.
