Corey Seager’s RBI double helps Rangers beat sloppy Blue Jays 7-1 and close gap in playoff race

Corey Seager contributed to the Texas Rangers' 7-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays with an RBI double in the second inning. The double came courtesy of a throwing error, propelling the Rangers to a strong start. The Rangers, with a 77-77 record, achieved their first-ever .500 record, marking the 23rd time in major league history.

This performance brought them within one game of the White Sox for the third and final AL wild-card spot. The Blue Jays (76-78) trail by two games in the wild-card race. The win also narrowed the gap between Texas and Houston, who they are now even with atop the AL West division. However, Texas would need to win the division outright to finish ahead of their in-state rival.

Houston fell short against Atlanta, losing 6-2. Starting pitcher Jake Burger added to the Texas offensive surge by driving in a run during the inning where Seager scored the first of four runs. However, the Blue Jays had the last laugh as their 10 walks and three throwing errors, including two by third baseman Kazuma Okamoto, resulted in six unearned runs for Texas.

Starting pitcher Trevor Williams finished strong, pitching scoreless innings after the Rangers' lead expanded. Blue Jays' hitting streak of 13 games was snapped by Seager's double as he was replaced in the fifth inning. The Rangers will face Texas starting pitcher Cal Quantrill on Saturday.
