Cops, MCMC must probe alleged insult to Rukun Negara in viral video, says minister

National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang has called for a comprehensive investigation by police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) into a stage performance that allegedly insulted the institution of the Malay rulers, Malaysia, and the Rukun Negara. The viral video showed actors telling each other to "go back" to China, India, and Indonesia, followed by the phrase "This is Malaysia" repeated throughout the skit.

Afterward, the actors recited the Rukun Negara with mocking responses, and one actor performed in only red underwear with red and white words painted on his body. Aaron deemed the act irresponsible, excessive, and unacceptable, emphasizing that freedom of expression should not be used to belittle national institutions or provoke social discord.

Religious Affairs Minister Zulkifli Hasan also criticized the performance, stating it breached proper conduct and undermined social harmony in Malaysia's multi-racial society. He urged the organizers to issue a public apology and called for a thorough investigation and legal action against any party responsible for the insult. Aaron stressed that artistic platforms should uplift the soul and unite people, not divide them, and must be based on truth, propriety, and strong moral and religious values.
