Congress PAC discusses strategy for local body elections in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh Congress Political Affairs Committee (PAC) convened a meeting at Andhra Ratna Bhavan in Vijayawada on Saturday to deliberate on strategies to fortify the party's position in the State and prepare for the upcoming local body elections. AICC representative for Andhra Pradesh affairs, P.V. Mohan, attended the gathering, while APCC president Y.S. Sharmila Reddy participated remotely via a Zoom call.

Ms. Sharmila emphasized the importance of party members and workers approaching the local body elections with renewed vigor to bolster the Congress and enhance its performance. She stressed the necessity of identifying robust candidates and ensuring that every party worker regarded the local body elections as a duty. Ms. Sharmila reminded the audience of former Chief Minister Y.S.

Rajasekhara Reddy's desire to see Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister and urged Congress supporters to strive towards fulfilling his ambitions. She characterized the Congress as a secular party dedicated to equality.

Ms. Sharmila criticized the ruling alliance parties and the YSR Congress, alleging that they were both "followers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi" and that people were unhappy with both the TDP and YSRCP. She asserted that the Congress should become an alternative in the State and stressed the need to eliminate group politics within the party and concentrate on strengthening the organization.

The APCC chief welcomed Mr. Mohan's appointment as the State party affairs in-charge and expressed confidence that his experience and seniority would bolster the organization in Andhra Pradesh. She also urged him to secure full backing from the AICC for the State unit.

The PAC deliberated on the party's organizational readiness and electoral strategy for the local body elections, focusing on candidate selection, grassroots mobilization, and enhancing coordination among party leaders and workers.
