Collateral Registry: Security interest registrations declined by 32.2% in quarter 2, 2026

In the second quarter of 2026, the Collateral Registry reported a significant decline in security interest registrations, falling by 32.2% compared to the previous year's second quarter. This decrease was primarily attributed to the reduction in registrations by Savings and Loans Institutions (S&Ls). Despite this decline in registrations, the total value of secured credit registered during the period surged by 73.4%, indicating a positive trend in lending activities year-on-year. The main driving force behind this growth was the banks.

The Collateral Registry Application System (CRAS) saw an increase in search activity by 13.9%, suggesting a higher utilization of the Registry's platform by lenders and other stakeholders. This rise in searches led to improved credit due diligence and reduced information asymmetry. Over the quarter, there was an increase of 8.7% in searches, from 17,955 in the first quarter of 2026 to 19,518 in the second quarter. Comparing quarter one 2026 to quarter two 2026, there was an 8.7% increase in searches, from 17,955 to 19,518.

The registration of security interests saw a substantial decline, dropping to 92,033 in quarter two 2026 from 135,721 registrations recorded in the same period last year. This represented a 32.2% reduction. The decline in registrations was mainly driven by S&Ls, which experienced a decrease of 42.4%, with registrations falling from 119,649 in the second quarter of 2025 to 68,871 in the second quarter of 2026.

Searches were conducted 90,518 times during the review period, reflecting a 13.9% increase compared to 17,140 searches recorded in the second quarter of 2025. S&Ls accounted for the majority of searches, with 12,397 searches conducted in the second quarter of 2026, which represented a year-on-year increase of 3.6%, compared to 11,968 searches in the same period last year.
