Clementi fish seller fined S$2,000 for harassing pork stall owner by telling customers to buy pork from another stall

In a wet market located in Clementi, a 68-year-old fish seller named Xu Zhenji was recently fined S$2,000 for harassing a pork stall owner. The incident occurred on September 18, 2025, when Xu allegedly told a female customer that the pork sold at a neighboring stall was of better quality and encouraged her to purchase from that stall instead.

Xu had been in a dispute with the pork stall owner over the use of shared spaces near their stalls. In 2024, Xu made loud remarks about the victim's stall, which were loud enough for customers intending to buy from the victim to hear. The court had previously granted an expedited order on August 8, 2024, and a hearing on February 24, 2025, to consider the victim's application for a Personal Protection Order (PPO). The PPO was granted on February 24, 2025, and Xu was ordered to pay S$2,000 in costs to the victim.

However, on November 18, 2025, Xu was reported to have repeated her harassment tactics, telling the customer that the pork at the neighboring stall was better. She also claimed, on two occasions in January 2025 and February 2026, that the pork at the victim's stall was frozen and not fresh, which violated the PPO.

Despite Xu's claims of not fighting with the victim or damaging any property, the court fined her S$2,000, which she was allowed to pay in installments. A CCTV camera was recently installed outside the pork stall, and an assistant at the stall stated that the two stalls had coexisted peacefully for about six or seven years. However, Xu's recent harassment tactics, including repeatedly telling customers that the pork was frozen and shouting loudly, led to the installation of the CCTV and the application for a PPO.
