Carl Icahn Added Nearly 69 Million Shares of His Own Company Last Quarter

Carl Icahn added approximately 36.5 million shares of Icahn Enterprises (IEP) to his holdings in two separate transactions during the past two quarters. The first purchase of 32.5 million shares was made on April 17 at $7.67 per unit, while the second acquisition of 4 million units occurred on June 25 at $7.2956 per unit. This increase in his ownership took his beneficial stake to 132 million units, or 18.65%, of the company's total.

IEP's share count expands automatically each quarter via distribution reinvestment, so Icahn's accumulation is not solely due to open-market conviction buying. IEP's anchor holding, CVR Energy (CVI), surged 116% year-to-date and surpassed Q2 estimates, making IEP a leveraged bet on the CVR refining thesis.
