Canada warns visa applicants against fake lottery

Immigration officials in Canada are cautioning individuals against falling for fraudulent schemes that claim to guarantee immigration outcomes or special selection programs. In a public advisory posted on X, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) emphasized that no lottery, shortcut, or secret pathway can assure anyone's selection to immigrate to Canada.

The department stressed that no person or organization can promise quicker processing, priority treatment, or approval of an immigration application, warning that if it seems too good to be true, it likely is.

IRCC advised applicants to safeguard themselves by following three essential steps: obtaining information about immigration programs exclusively from official Government of Canada sources, exercising caution towards anyone requesting money in exchange for a guaranteed result, and refraining from making payments or sharing personal details unless utilizing an official IRCC platform.

The department highlighted that scammers commonly target individuals through social media, emails, and phone calls with false promises of exclusive programs or expedited services for a fee. IRCC clarified that only authorized IRCC officers have the authority to decide immigration applications, with decisions based solely on eligibility criteria.

Applicants were urged to verify all information on the official Canada.ca website and report any suspicious offers.
