Brighton thrash champions Arsenal at Amex

Brighton & Hove Albion stunned reigning champions Arsenal in a thrilling match at the Amex Stadium, relegating the visitors to third place and securing their own spot in the third position. From the outset, Arsenal appeared subdued, struggling to maintain their usual high level of performance. However, the home side's dominance was evident as they tormented the previously self-assured Arsenal team, making it challenging for them to execute even straightforward passes in their own half.

Brighton's efforts were rewarded with a goal in the early stages of the game when Pascal Gross, given space outside the area, struck a low shot that found the back of the net from 25 yards, striking the inside of David Raya’s near post. Following this, just before halftime, Bukayo Saka was thwarted by Bart Verbruggen at one end, and the ball swiftly found its way to Charalampos Kostoulas at the other end. Kostoulas, given ample time to turn, fired a powerful shot from 20 yards, adding to Brighton's lead.

The dominance extended beyond traditional play as Brighton showcased their superiority in set-pieces. Chema Andres, making his full debut, rose highest at the far post to head home Gross' corner. Arsenal faced potential disaster with substitute players Georginio Rutter and Matt O’Riley missing clear opportunities. Malick Yalcouye hit the crossbar, and Declan Rice narrowly avoided a red card for a reckless challenge on Yalcouye just before the final whistle.
