B.C. family rescues exhausted baby bear swimming in Okanagan Lake

A family boating trip on Okanagan Lake took an unexpected turn when they encountered an exhausted baby bear swimming in the middle of the lake. Christina Zamniuk, the mother of the family, reported that they were vacationing between their Vernon lakehouse and Adventure Bay when they spotted the cub in distress. The bear appeared to be struggling to keep its head above water, clearly devolved from fatigue.

Realizing the cub needed assistance, the family contacted the B.C. Conservation Service for guidance. Meanwhile, they managed to secure a rope around the bear and brought the vulnerable cub, named Boo Boo, onto their boat to provide warmth and rest. Boo Boo's nose was submerged, and he was unable to move his back legs, indicating his extreme exhaustion.

The family kept Boo Boo on the boat for approximately an hour, allowing him to regain some strength. Following the advice of the B.C. Conservation Service, the family carefully guided the cub closer to the shore. With gentle encouragement, Boo Boo finally made it onto land and was able to continue his journey unharmed.
