Arteta responds to Max Dowman January loan questions

Mikel Arteta has stressed that Arsenal are monitoring Max Dowman's development on a six-month basis, dismissing rumors of a potential January loan as premature. The 16-year-old was instrumental in Arsenal's 4-2 Carabao Cup victory over Ipswich Town, netting twice in his debut match of the season. Dowman, who has completed 13 appearances this term, has also juggled his Arsenal duties with his GCSE studies.

Following his 17th birthday on New Year's Eve, the youngster is set to sign a professional contract, which has sparked speculation about a potential loan move should regular first-team football prove advantageous to his development. However, Arteta is content to keep Dowman close, stating, "We haven't really listened to any of the possibilities because we were crystal clear that we wanted to have him in the squad, that we wanted him to be part of the pre-season and then start to see where we are from there."

The manager emphasized that the decision will hinge on various factors, such as Dowman's individual needs, the team's requirements, and his playing opportunities. Arteta acknowledged that numerous instances exist where players of Dowman's age have flourished or struggled abroad, ultimately concluding that "now he is in a good place, let's keep him here."
