Argentina's largest private power producer, Central Puerto, has sold its entire stake in AbraSilver, a Canadian-listed silver miner, for US$163.1 million. The silver-mine stake was initially purchased for US$25.5 million, marking a gain of about 6.4 times the investment. The sale took place on 16 September 2026, within two and a half years of the initial purchase.
The acquisition was made through Central Puerto's wholly-owned subsidiary, Proener. AbraSilver's Diablillos project, located in the northwest of Argentina, is a silver and gold mine that began operations in July 2029. The project is the largest shareholder of Central Puerto, with a stake of 9.9% as of January 2025. Central Puerto's sale of its AbraSilver stake is expected to be paid out as an extraordinary cash dividend to shareholders, amounting to 247.3 billion pesos (US$163.6 million).
The payout will be distributed at a rate of 164 pesos (US$0.11) per ordinary share. The RIGI, or Large Investment Incentive Regime, was created to provide tax benefits to large-scale investment projects in Argentina. AbraSilver's Diablillos project qualified for RIGI status after receiving formal approval in Resolution 562 on 11 May 2026.
