AI operation uncovered 126 terror suspects – INTERPOL

An international counter-terrorism operation, "Operation Shams II," conducted by INTERPOL, has identified 126 suspected foreign terrorist fighters using AI technology. The operation involved 28 experts from 11 countries, including Nigeria, and extracted facial images from 108,076 images found in online jihadist content. AI agents and scripts were used to process the data, resulting in 6,362 unique, high-quality facial images.

INTERPOL's facial recognition system then verified the results. The operation has enriched existing intelligence on the suspects, including potential locations and social networks. Additional intelligence from INTERPOL's Baghdad bureau included hundreds of images linked to terrorism suspects. The operation has already supported judicial proceedings in participating countries. The CT TECH+ Project, funded by the European Union, supported this initiative.
