A night to honour musicians who are still playing on

The Malaysian Musicians Association's 2026 Benefit Showcase, held on October 10, will honor veteran musicians aged 75 and above while raising funds for welfare support and future performance opportunities. Among the 20 honorees is 83-year-old Richard Joseph, who continues to perform, including busking. MfM honorary secretary Latifah Abdullah emphasized the significance of recognizing musicians whose work has continued outside the spotlight despite the lack of formal recognition.

The evening will also pay tribute to Rusli Musif, known as Olie, who suffered a stroke and will be honored by his son joining him on stage. Royston Sta Maria, who wrote Freedom's hit "Mulanya Di Sini", will return from Perth to perform with former members. Singer Francissca Peter and bands Os Pompos and Lighthouse are also participating.

Latifah highlighted the ongoing challenges musicians face, such as uncertain employment and limited performance opportunities due to many venues closing. The association, which has around 800 members, aims to raise at least RM100,000 to provide medical assistance, workshops, festivals, and performance opportunities.
