‘You People Have Not Mended Your Ways’: Delhi HC Issues Notices To All 140 DUSU Candidates, Bars Victory Processions

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued show-cause notices to all 140 candidates and student organizations involved in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections, over alleged violations of election guidelines. The court barred victory processions after the results are declared, warning that any violation would result in criminal and administrative action and contempt of court.

The Delhi Police has been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the court's order. The bench also questioned the Delhi Police regarding vehicles used in candidate processions without number plates in and around North Campus, remarking, "How even a single vehicle was allowed on Delhi’s roads and in and around the North Campus without number plates and with the names of the candidates?"

The court also raised concerns over an assault on a teacher during the election process, stating, "You people have not mended your ways," referencing past instances of similar violations during elections. Candidates and organizations have been given two weeks to file their replies. The court's order comes as polling is underway, with vote counting scheduled for September 19. If violence continues, the counting could be halted.
