‘Will come back on Saturday’: How accused in Delhi HR professional's murder case kept texting his family from his phone

A Delhi court granted bail to U.S. citizen Matthew Aaron Van Dyke on Friday, September 18, 2026, in connection with a terror-conspiracy investigation conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Special Judge Prashant Sharma imposed a bail condition of a personal bond of ₹1 lakh and a surety of the same amount. The court mandated that Van Dyke must remain in Delhi throughout the legal proceedings.

The court issued a notice to the NIA regarding Van Dyke's bail plea on Thursday. Earlier in the month, the NIA filed a chargesheet against Van Dyke and six Ukrainian nationals for alleged illegal entry, stay, and movement within India. However, the agency did not invoke the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in their chargesheet. The NIA stated that additional time was needed to gather and verify the facts surrounding the potential UAPA violations.

The NIA informed the court that the group of seven individuals were being investigated for a broad-scale terror conspiracy, which allegedly included providing support to ethnic armed groups in India and Myanmar, as well as providing drone training to them.
