What has happened so far as Nilekani-led NEET reforms panel prepares report

The Supreme Court ordered an inspection of the National Testing Agency (NTA) facility to assess the implementation of reforms suggested by the Nandan Nilekani panel. This comes after the panel was formed to address irregularities in the NEET examination, leading to mass protests by the Congress-Janata Party in June-July 2026. The Centre informed the court that the panel is expected to submit its first interim report by the end of the month.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated that the panel has held consultations and will present suggestions, emphasizing the importance of institutionalizing the entire process. The court expressed concern about the lack of effective changes and stressed the need for permanency, permanent staff, and collaboration with other institutions.

The bench also directed the Joint Secretary coordinating with the Nilekani panel to file an affidavit within two weeks, detailing the progress made by the committee.
