UN experts say grounds to believe US committed war crimes in Iran strikes

UN human rights experts have concluded there is sufficient evidence to believe that the United States committed war crimes during two strikes in Iran that resulted in the deaths of at least 177 civilians. The Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran reported that the February missile strikes on a primary school in Minab and a sports complex in Lamerd were indiscriminate attacks that caused civilian deaths and damage to civilian infrastructure.

The US initially denied striking Lamerd and stated it was investigating the Minab incident. The experts also found that Iranian authorities committed crimes against humanity during a crackdown on anti-government protests in January, with killings occurring on an unprecedented scale across all 31 provinces. The mission's findings highlight the conflict between the Iranian government's human rights violations and its ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel.
