Umno harap pengampunan bersyarat Najib beri momentum pada PRN Melaka

Umno, the Malaysian national ruling party, is hoping for conditional forgiveness for former Prime Minister Najib Razak to provide momentum for the party ahead of the Melaka PRN (People's Representation Council) election. President Zahid Hamidi expressed his hope that the development will be a positive factor for Umno as it navigates the current political landscape.

"I hope so, to be a factor of added value to the geopolitics that is currently at the helm of the political landscape or the political landscape of our country, may Allah be pleased," he said at a media briefing following the 20th Umno Summit.

Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, graciously granted Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remaining part of his sentence in custody at home until August 23, 2028. According to the Attorney-General Department, the conditional pardon, decided at the 64th Session of the Federal Court Advisory Committee for the Federal Territory, Labuan, and Putrajaya, requires a fine of RM50 million and compliance with conditions throughout the house arrest period.

Regarding Melaka PRN preparations, Zahid also stated that he has given the mandate to BN Melaka's Pengerusi Ab Rauf Yusoh to engage with any coalition of political parties. He added that a list of candidates will be presented by BN Melaka before being examined based on reports from various parties, while an MP showing good performance will be retained.

"We have a principle of WALI, winnable, acceptable and likeable candidate, so that we can win, supporting the blue wave trend that is sweeping across the nation starting from Johor and Negeri Sembilan," he said.
