Trump says his son’s wedding party being bankrolled by a Russian oligarch is ‘totally allowed’

President Donald Trump defended his son's recent wedding party being partially funded by a Russian oligarch, stating it is "totally allowed". He added that he had been told the money would be repaid. ProPublica had previously reported that Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch with ties to President Vladimir Putin, contributed to the wedding expenses, including renting a private island and the fireworks display.

Kremlev hosted two nights of celebrations for Trump Jr. and socialite Bettina Anderson after their May 2021 wedding in the Bahamas. The couple described Kremlev as a "dear friend" who generously hosted the events. Despite the substantial funding, the president noted that Kremlev had paid back the money. Trump also mentioned that it is common for him to provide wedding parties for others, but insisted that he had heard Kremlev would repay the funds.
