Trump kaster ut CNN og flere andre medier fra Det hvite hus

U.S. President Donald Trump has barred CNN, Politico, and MSNBC from the White House, his office announced on social media platform Truth Social. The restriction comes into immediate effect, according to Trump. He accused the media of repeatedly publishing "fake news" without providing examples. Trump vowed to target more media outlets, including Politico, which he claims received an "illegal and frivolous" $8 million subscription from government agencies under the Biden administration.

This allegation was previously made by Trump but has been confirmed by official documents showing that US agencies spent around $8 million on Politico subscriptions and services in the 2024 fiscal year. The funds were, however, payments for subscriptions and access to services like Politico Pro, not financial support for the media outlet.

The White House has also limited access for all media outlets before, such as barring CNN, The New York Times, and Politico from a briefing at the White House in 2017, while allowing other media access. In 2025, the news agency Associated Press (AP) was excluded from several events with Trump after it declined to use "Gulf of America" instead of "Gulf of Mexico."

The ban was later halted by a federal court, and Trump's administration later restricted the access of AP, Reuters, and Bloomberg by removing their fixed places in the press pool, a group of journalists who follow the president when there is limited space, such as in the Oval Office or on Air Force One.
