Torrent Pharma cybercrime case: Gujarat High Court allows accused to leave state

K Lokanath Subudhi, accused of stealing confidential information from pharma giant Torrent Pharmaceuticals, has been granted a temporary exemption from staying within Gujarat to care for his ailing family. The Gujarat High Court suspended a condition imposed on Subudhi for one month, allowing him to leave the state. Subudhi's lawyer informed the court of his family's circumstances, prompting the court's decision.

Torrent Pharmaceuticals, a leading Indian pharmaceutical company, is seeking Rs 6 crore to prevent the disclosure of confidential data. The case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. Subudhi's legal team argued that he was innocent and had been falsely implicated, providing an undertaking not to misuse Torrent's confidential information.

The court noted Subudhi's lack of criminal history, the lack of evidence to support continued incarceration, and the anticipated length of the trial.
