Solar Firm Set to Make Pakistan’s First SPAC Listing on PSX

Solar firm Ningbo Green Light Energy is poised to make Pakistan's inaugural SPAC listing on the Pakistan Securities Exchange (PSX), according to Bloomberg. The innovative renewable energy company anticipates completing a reverse takeover of LSE SPAC I Ltd. following court approval, which would allow it to debut on public markets within a matter of weeks.

LSE SPAC I, a subsidiary of LSE Capital Ltd., raised Rs. 250 million through its own IPO earlier this year. This funding enabled the SPAC to acquire a 19 percent stake in Ningbo. The proposed SPAC transaction comes as Pakistan's IPO market experiences its most robust year yet. Bloomberg data reveals that 13 IPOs have collectively raised a staggering Rs. 23.1 billion so far in 2024, setting a record for the market.

The surge in IPO activity is attributed to a robust stock market rally in 2024 and 2025, coupled with increased participation from individual investors. Despite the KSE 100 Index falling 2.5 percent this year, the MSCI Frontier Markets Index has surged by 9 percent. LSE Capital CEO Aftab Ahmad Chaudhry noted that Pakistan's conventional IPO market has primarily catered to mature and established companies.

He believes that the SPAC structure could broaden access to capital markets for growth-stage enterprises and businesses that may not meet the size requirements for a traditional IPO.

Ningbo Green Light Energy has already invested over 300 megawatts in solar capacity and is advancing a financing model that enables businesses to install solar systems without paying the entire upfront cost. This flexible payment structure allows companies to spread their expenses over time.
