SK Group chief pays over 800 mln won in court filing fees for property division appeal

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has recently paid over 800 million won, equivalent to $577,000, in court filing fees for his Supreme Court appeal in his property division dispute with former spouse Roh Soh-yeong, according to legal sources. The Supreme Court officially received Chey's appeal on Monday after he paid the fee of approximately 850 million won, as per the sources.

The fee is determined based on the magnitude of the dispute. Chey lodged his appeal last month following the Seoul High Court's order in July to pay 944 billion won to Roh in a property division. Chey's legal team has expressed willingness to accept up to 700 billion won of the ruling but contested the remaining balance. Roh has not yet contested the appellate court's ruling.

Chey initiated divorce proceedings in 2017 after admitting to having an extramarital affair and a child with Roh two years earlier. Chey and Roh were married in 1988 and have three children together. The case reached the Supreme Court last year, which finalized the divorce but sent the property settlement back to the appellate court for review. The case has been returned to the top court with Chey's appeal.
