Sikh truck driver survives harrowing stabbing attack at Wyoming rest stop

A Sikh truck driver, identified only by his surname Singh, survived a harrowing stabbing attack that left him with 17 wounds in Wyoming on Sunday. The assailant, Andrew Kris Bzdak, fled the scene before being arrested by Wyoming highway patrol troopers. Bzdak has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and is being held at the Sweetwater county detention center with a $1m bail, according to an inmate roster.

The victim, Singh, expressed his disbelief at the incident, saying he did not expect his final moment. He also credited a Good Samaritan family for bringing him towels to clean his wounds as they pursued the attacker. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, stated Jeff Sheaman, a public information officer for the Sweetwater county sheriff’s office.

Some prominent South Asian civic and political figures have connected the attack to a controversial Department of Homeland Security post that depicted a Sikh driver in a negative light. The DHS officials responded to the criticism, stating the post was a reference to a specific case of a truck driver accused of making an illegal turn.

Illinois congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi expressed his concerns over the rising hatred targeting Sikh and South Asian Americans, urging those spreading hate to stop and be held accountable. The DHS responded to the Wyoming attack by dismissing any attempt to blame them as "RECKLESS and FALSE."
