‘She is not a flight risk; even worst criminals get bail’ – GRNMA on detention of nurse in Ghana Jollof case

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) is urging for bail for senior nursing officer Salomey Awity Baffoe, maintaining that there is no reason for her continued detention for another two weeks. Assistant PR Officer Philemon Agyapong highlighted her status as a senior nursing officer in Techiman, emphasizing she is not a flight risk due to her permanent employment.

Agyapong questioned the grounds for denying bail, stressing that her position allows authorities to track her. He expressed surprise at the allegations, particularly the claim of involvement in a potential government overthrow. While the GRNMA cannot ascertain guilt or innocence, they believe she should be treated fairly, deeming the allegations insufficient for prolonged incarceration.

Agyapong noted the police have initiated investigations; however, Salomey's presence in custody is troubling since the accused is believed to be outside Ghana. He reiterated that even the most serious criminals can receive bail, emphasizing the GRNMA's call for fairness and adherence to the judicial process. The association has visited her holding facility and initiated an internal review, including her work conduct and professional history.

GRNMA vows to support Salomey while respecting legal procedures, stating they believe her detention was unjustified.
