Ryan Gerard grabs two-shot lead as big names struggle at BMW PGA

Virginia Water, England—Ryan Gerard posted an impressive 7-under 65 on Friday, putting him two strokes ahead after the second round of the BMW PGA Championship. This event, which will not see participation from Patrick Reed, Tommy Fleetwood, or Jon Rahm, showcases Gerard's form that would benefit the U.S. team at the upcoming Presidents Cup.

Gerard, ranked 21st, is currently at 12 under for the week, while the other top finishers, including Adam Scott (67) and Filippo Cello (66), fell short of his lead. Aaron Rai and Manuel Elvira are tied for fourth place, one stroke behind Gerard. Jon Rahm's 78-77 left him 23 shots behind Gerard, marking his worst professional performance in terms of score.

Brentley Romine reported that Rahm's 6-over 78 in the first round was his highest non-major score since 2021. Jon Rahm, a two-time major champion and one of the biggest stars in LIV Golf, missed the cut after a poor performance. Patrick Reed, the Race to Dubai leader, withdrew due to a hand injury after nine holes of the second round, while Steve Coulter and J.J. Spaun secured the remaining spots in the clubhouse lead.
