According to AS, Alvarez has been training diligently and at a good pace alongside Atletico’s physiotherapists. Unless there is a setback, the 2026 Madrid derby should be soon enough for Alvarez to be considered a starter. However, Diego Simeone may still consider him a bench option, providing Atletico with another attacking threat for the closing stages.

Alvarez's return creates a selection dilemma for Simeone, as the absence has led to competition for places in the starting XI. Real Madrid, on the other hand, is close to full strength, with only Eder Militao, Rodrygo, and Ferland Mendy out due to injuries. The derby is expected to feature two sides with most of their key players available.
