Republic Bank targets 42% mortgage market share by 2026 year-end
Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC is targeting 40-42 per cent of Ghana’s mortgage market by the end of 2026, as it intensifies efforts to reclaim its position as a dominant player in the country’s housing finance sector.
Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC is set to capture 40-42 percent of the country’s mortgage market by the end of 2026, according to the bank’s Managing Director, Dr Benjamin Dzoboku. In an interview with Joy FM’s Personality Profile, Dr Dzoboku revealed that Republic Bank currently holds more than 38 percent of the mortgage market and is committed to regaining its dominant position in the Ghanaian housing finance sector.
The bank’s renewed focus on mortgage financing stems from its original mandate as a mortgage finance institution before evolving into a full-service commercial bank.
To achieve this goal, Republic Bank is intensifying its housing finance activities through new partnerships, product development, and streamlining the mortgage application process. The bank introduced a reconfigured mortgage financing operation in January 2026, prioritizing digital verification, reduced processing times, and specialised advisory services for prospective homeowners and investors.
Furthermore, Republic Bank is collaborating to expand access to lower-cost housing finance through the National Mortgage Scheme, which resumed lending in August 2026 with an interest rate of 8.4 percent, following a review with the bank.
Republic Bank’s mortgage portfolio includes home purchase, home equity, home completion, home improvement, buy-build-and-own, pension-backed, executive, switch, and land mortgages. The bank offers cedi mortgage rates of 18 percent per annum fixed and USD mortgage rates of 11.5 percent per annum. Cedi mortgages can be extended for up to 20 years, while USD mortgages can be extended for up to 15 years.
Republic Bank has also introduced a pension-backed mortgage financing product, enabling eligible pension contributors to leverage their retirement savings for homeownership.
To complement the renewed mortgage push, Republic Bank is co-hosting the Republic Bank JoyNews Habitat Fair with Multimedia Group. The three-day event, scheduled from September 25 to 27, 2026, at Junction Mall, Nungua, will connect prospective homeowners with housing developers, financial institutions, and other sector players. The fair will be expanded to Accra, Kumasi, and Ho to increase access to housing information and financing opportunities.
For Republic Bank, this mortgage push represents a return to its historic roots in mortgage banking and reinforces its position as a longstanding player in Ghana’s housing finance industry.
