Reisen: „Wir wollen hier kein Sylt 2.0 schaffen“

Carolinensiel, a small town in the German state of Ostfriesland, is struggling to attract tourists, as many visitors are instead heading to nearby Wangerooge. Located about a 20-minute walk from Carolinensiel's historic port, the ferry from Harlesiel makes three trips a day to the island. Those who wish to visit Carolinensiel by car face challenges, as the train service from the final station in Norden is sparse, with only 54 bus stops along the K1 route, with most stops passing by without stopping.

In an effort to change this situation, the town's mayor, Rolf Claussen, architect Alexis Angelis, and his partner Frank Reiners have taken on key roles in a tourism transformation project. The goal is to make Carolinensiel a more appealing destination compared to the neighboring islands of Langeoog and Spiekeroog, where most buses connect to the Siel towns. However, the current situation leaves little interest in the Siel locations themselves.
