Red Wings unveil TV, radio plans for 2026-27 season

The Detroit Red Wings announced their television and radio broadcasting plans for the 2026-27 season on Friday, September 18. The most significant change in personnel involves the radio booth, where Paul Woods, a long-time analyst, is retiring after 40 years of participation. The team will adopt a rotation model in the radio booth, with Larry Murphy and Chris Osgood working alongside Ken Kal for play-by-play coverage.

Stu Grimson, a former Wings enforcer, will also contribute to radio analysis and serve as the backup analyst for TV broadcasts in the event of Mickey Redmond's absence. Osgood and Murphy will continue their duties on the Red Wings TV broadcasts, covering pregame, postgame, and intermission segments, sometimes in tandem and sometimes individually.

Ken Daniels will return for the TV play-by-play. The team has moved their local television broadcasts to Detroit SportsNet this season, joining the Detroit Tigers after FanDuel Sports Detroit's dissolution. Fans can access both teams' games through a single subscription, either monthly or annually. Red Wings games will also be available for streaming via the MLB.TV app, accessible under a dedicated tab.

Additionally, the broadcasts will be accessible through most major cable providers. Ryan Gustafson, president and CEO of Ilitch Sports & Entertainment, expressed enthusiasm for the team's first season of hockey on Detroit SportsNet, emphasizing the partnership with Major League Baseball in providing fans with multiple access options.

Daniella Bruce, Logan Reever, and Trevor Thompson will serve as reporters on the TV broadcasts, with Trevor Thompson also calling two preseason games on the radio side. The majority of the TV production crew will retain their positions as Ilitch Sports & Entertainment takes over control of the broadcasts, a role they've had with the Detroit Tigers since 2026.

The radio broadcasts will remain on the team's longtime home, 97.1 The Ticket. The Red Wings' first preseason game is scheduled for Monday, August 12, against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and their regular season opener will be Friday, October 2, against the New York Rangers at Little Caesars Arena.
