Rafizi presses government to explain Najib house arrest terms

Former minister Rafizi Ramli has called on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Harapan leaders to clarify the conditions of former Prime Minister Najib Razak's house arrest and publish the details surrounding his conditional pardon. In a statement on behalf of Bersama, Rafizi maintained that Malaysians should be able to express their opinions within legal boundaries, and Anwar and PH leaders from PKR, DAP, and Amanah should explain the matter rather than claiming it's beyond their control.

Rafizi emphasized that the 1MDB scandal influenced some Malaysians who didn't previously vote for PH to support the coalition in the 2018 general election. He urged Anwar to disclose the house-arrest conditions so that if there's a breach, action can be taken. Rafizi also encouraged Malaysians concerned about the 1MDB scandal to educate younger generations about the incident and the importance of improving integrity in public administration.

He urged Najib and his supporters to understand that many Malaysians were deeply affected by the 1MDB scandal, and the house arrest process should be handled discreetly to avoid further reactions. The statement came after the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories at Istana Negara, where Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim granted Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to complete the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to a RM50 million fine. The conditions of the house arrest have not been disclosed, Rafizi added.
