R.I.P. Duncan Sheik, pop singer and Tony-winning composer

Duncan Sheik, a renowned pop singer and Tony-winning composer, has passed away. His mother, Suzanne Sheik, confirmed the news to The New York Times, revealing that he died from cardiac arrest. Sheik was 56 years old. He gained initial fame in the late 1990s with his Grammy-nominated hit song "Barely Breathing." However, it was his work on Broadway that truly catapulted him to success.

His score for the hit musical "Spring Awakening" won numerous awards and broke many cast members into stardom. Sheik's journey to Broadway began after he finished high school and attended Brown University, where he studied semiotics and performed in a band with Lisa Loeb. He then moved to Los Angeles and signed a record deal with Immortal Records.
