Prabowo's 6 Steps to Indonesia's Energy Independence

President Prabowo Subianto has laid out six crucial steps for Indonesia to achieve energy independence, according to Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. The President emphasized the need to rely less on foreign energy and build self-sufficiency using domestic resources. At a recent National Energy Council meeting in Jakarta, the President directed the focus towards optimizing natural resources to achieve this goal.

Step one involves accelerating the development of various domestic energy sources, such as palm oil, corn, cassava, sugarcane, coal, geothermal, and solar energy. The second step targets advancing B50 and E50 biofuel blends to reduce dependence on imported fuels. Officials are also aiming to increase renewable capacity by expanding solar power plant deployment to 100 gigawatt peak within three years.

The third step includes raising national oil production by optimizing existing fields and wells while expanding exploration activities. Another proposed measure is the consideration of constructing a nuclear power plant, aligning with preliminary studies and phased implementation.

To ensure a clear roadmap, the government plans to draft a comprehensive and measurable energy plan. This roadmap will outline annual targets, funding requirements, execution timelines, and operational responsibilities. President Prabowo stressed that energy independence is vital not only for meeting domestic energy needs but also for strengthening economic resilience and providing Indonesia greater control over its development direction amid global geopolitical shifts.
